Start off your trip in downtown Athens and see just how many DAWG statues you can find. Take a stroll through the beautiful and historic North Campus of the University of Georgia. Take a turn through the 25 acres of green in the Founders Memorial Garden. As you cross into South Carolina, make a stop at Calhoun Falls State Park and walk the trails along Lake Russell. Your drive will take you through Abbeville, where the downtown Historic District includes quaint shops, local restaurants, farmers market and historic architecture in churches, Opera House, and Belmont Hotel.

Comfort Your Taste Buds at Fat Daddy’s BBQ 

When it’s been a double mac and cheese kind of day, head to Fat Daddy’s for tender fried catfish or some BBQ with the sauce that’s just right. Fried corn and hushpuppies, brisket cooked for 14 hours, all in a classic diner setting. Owner Chris Reeder is a second-generation BBQ man, happy to be back in his hometown helping to boost Uptown Greenwood by bringing customers to taste BBQ smoked daily with aged hickory.

Paddle Away on the Blueway 

The Blueway, a 34-mile trail for paddling, has brought kayakers, canoers and other water lovers to Lake Greenwood. Kiosks and signage on the Blueway increase paddlers’ knowledge of their environment, and paddlers can do short or long routes. Connect Lake Greenwood has several Paddle Runs each year that start at the Buzzard Roost Dam and go to various drop-off points for pickup.

Dinner at the Inn on the Square

One of the gems of Uptown Greenwood is the Inn on the Square. While they offer the latest in modern amenities, this charming inn is renovated to preserve the original architecture and historic integrity. Take a break at their Fox and Hound lounge, where you can listen to live music while you sample the appetizers or enjoy full meals as well as cocktails, wine, and micro-brewed beers.

Walk in Beauty at The Arts Center

As one of the three anchors of Uptown Greenwood’s cultural district, the beautifully renovated Arts Center has 25,000 square feet of bright, airy space. In addition to its permanent collection, the center showcases regional and touring exhibits. On tap for summer and fall 2020 are the work of 51 local artists and Lego reconstructions of 16 iconic New York buildings. In addition to the gallery space, the center includes a clay studio, classrooms, seven artist studios and a beautiful courtyard garden. The Arts Center is within walking distance of other cultural sites and shops of Uptown.

A unique, airy gallery in the heart of Uptown, Main & Maxwell’s mission is to promote making art by hand. More than 40 South Carolina artists and fine crafters showcase their work in Main & Maxwell, where you’ll find paintings, sculpture, jewelry, glass, pottery, wood and metalwork, fiber art and more. The gallery has fun classes, for groups or individuals, and there’s always something new coming in the door. Whether you’re looking for a small gift or a large piece of art, this is the place to find it.

Meet the Locals at Uptown Market 

Shop fresh and local at the Uptown Market, where you can meet the farmers, crafters, bakers and makers who showcase their wares at the covered, open-air market. You’ll find seasonal produce, locally raised meats, farm cheese, baked goods, soaps and gourmet cuisine prepared with local ingredients. Find handcrafted gifts and wearable goods, woodworking, soaps, sauces, bedding plants, and more. And the kids can play in the Uptown Splash Pad while you shop. Stir Up Some Fun at Good Times Brewing 

Good Times Brewing at the Mill House is a laid back place for casual food, local beers, and live music. Grab a pizza or wrap at the Mill House, chase it with some of the Blondes, Belgians, stouts, porters, rye, and ales made at Good Times Brewing. Good Times also has a wide array of small plates such as crab rangoon, tacos, sliders, and pork dumplings. Stop by for Sunday brunch or a beer dinner. Thanks to Greenwood’s robust and varied music scene, you’ll find some great local music here, not to mention trivia contests, ping pong tournaments, even morning yoga.
